The Nucleus Trust Organization Director Mr. John Kariuki (pictured), urge residents of Matete district to show love to victims of rape and defilement instead of socially discriminating and stigmatizing them.

Mr. John Kariuki was saying this as he was addressing participants during a brief ceremony to donate clothes and sanitary towels to 15 girls who are victims of sexual abuse in Matete District.

Mr. Kariuki observed that having gone through traumatizing experiences, victims of sexual abuse needed a lot of guiding and counseling from close members of public in order to restore a sense of social belonging in them.

He regretted that due to discrimination, some victims of defilement or rape, especially those above 14 years often sought recourse to early marriages in order to avoid stigmatization by members from within their communities.

“Many of the children whom we have managed to rescue who are above the age of 14 we have sometimes encountered problem with their parents who have insisted that such children must get married at that tender age”, said Kariuki.

The officer further regretted the rise in cases of child defilement in the area, but at the same time reiterated his organization’s zeal to fight for the rights of children adding that with help from security agencies the organization has been able to arrest and take to court perpetrators of such vices in Matete district.

He added that some of the perpetrators had already been sentenced to life imprisonment while other cases were still on.

Mr. kariuki appealed to the public to be vigilant and on the lookout for any persons who engage in such vices.
