A man likely to be between 21-25 years was beaten to death and dumped in a ditch in Wamunyiri village, Khalaba location, Bungoma South district early this morning.

The village elder, Mr. James Nabikhulu said the deceased was caught breaking into a house in the village at around 1 am by residents of the said village who stubbed him to death before dumping him into the ditch.

The owner of the house was at a certain club watching the on going Euro 2012 quarter final between England and Germany.

“I was woken up by loud shouts at 1.30 am, but did not take any interest, only to come to terms in the morning when I saw this dead man.” commented the shocked elder.

Two blankets were found lying beside the bloody body, and it is alleged that he might have stolen the items leading to him being beaten to death.

Evidence shows that the man was dragged on the road as one of the shoes he was wearing was found approximately 200 meters away from the scene and blood spots on the way.

Confirmed reports show that the deceased was serving a home sentence after being arraigned in court over the same theft case.

Khalaba location chief, Mr. Joseph Chengoli reported the incident to Bungoma OCS who arrived at 8 a.m to collect the body which was taken to Bungoma district mortuary.

The residents also asked the police to heighten their patrols at night especially during this time when people’s maize has matured.

They asked the district administration to ban the business of roasting maize because they said some of the dealers steal people’s maize at night.
