A male teacher at Igigo primary school at Port Victoria, Bunyala District was caught on spot in the classroom by his fellow teacher defiling an 11 year old standard three pupil who then reported the incident to the senior teacher.

The school head teacher Mr. Joseph Mwari took the mandate by interviewing the teacher and recording his findings before reporting the matter to KEPSHA chairman and zonal education officer.

The head teacher also wrote an official letter to the District Education Officer informing him about the incident.

The District Educational Officer, Mr. Maurice Jayoyo said, he received the letter, but his officers are still investigating the matter concerning the defilement case between the teacher and the pupil.

“The teacher was sent home for the investigation to be done by both P.T.A members and school management committee”, said the DEO.

Speaking to West FM, he stated that the action shall be taken against the teacher if he’s found guilty and whoever shall be found doing the same will face the consequences.

The District Children Officer Mr. Maurice Okuri said he received the case on 18^th June 2012 and he managed to interview the girl and her mother.

 They then agreed to take the girl to hospital for check up at Port Victoria District Hospital as they wait for the case to be filed in court.

“The report was then copied to the area Parish Priest Port Victoria parish, the county director of education, Busia and county Children’s Co- coordinator”, said Okuri.

23 year old being hunted for defiling a 16 year old

Elsewhere, police in Malaba are tracking down a 23 year old man from Kakapel Village of Teso North District who escaped from police custody after he lured and defiled a 16 year old girl.

The suspect, Lucas Baraza is said to have enticed the minor a standard  Seven pupil at Akichelesit Primary School  in Teso North on 2nd   June on her way home from school before eloping with  her to his place  where they have been leaving together for  almost a month.

Confirming the incident, Teso Police Boss Elphas Korir revealed that concern from the relatives and friends made the area chief and Angurai Administration Police Officers to storm the suspect’s house acting on a tipoff and apprehended the man.

Korir also said that the suspect escaped from the police in charge on their way to Malaba police station making a way with the handcuff .Efforts by police officers to pursue him was rendered fruitless after the suspect vanished in the nearby bush. The OCPD further said that the minor was taken to Teso District Hospital Kocholya for examination.

Reliable sources who spoke to West FM on condition of anonymity claimed that the minors’ parent had a hand on the issue saying that he had been paid a small amount to act as a starting dowry fee however; police said that they are yet to investigate on that.

Elsewhere in Busia a 49 years old father in Kaludeka village Walachi location Nambale District is under arrest for raping his 10 years old daughter.

The man is said to have locked the daughter in the house in the absence of the girl’s mother and raped her leaving the young girl with serious injuries.

According to the girl who narrated the ordeal, the father has been forcing her into sexual act for the last two years with warnings on not to reveal to anyone.

“He has been forcing me to do it and this time he was drunk and injured me that is why I raised an alarm", she said.

Area assistant chief Mr. Lawrence Juma Wafula confirmed the incident urging the public to give information to relevant authorities on such acts.

The man who was drank was taken to Nambale police station and he is to be arraigned in Busia law courts tomorrow Thursday 28^th June 2012.  

However the girl’s mother is suffering social disorders after her matrimonial family and her own family members disowned her for bringing shame in the family by reporting the matter to the authorities.

The two families demand that she withdraws the case or else she gets expelled from the families.

Child rights crusader Mary Makokha has claimed that cases of child rape and abuse are rampant in Busia County.

She appealed for the government to intervene and try to curb these cases.
