Body of a teenage girl recovered from maize plantation in Matungu

The body of an unknown woman was recovered Friday morning at Shiembekho Village Matungu Sub-location of Matungu District in Kakamega County.

The body was discovered by a passerby afte a foul smell was smelt coming from the maize plantation and called people from a neighbourring home to identify it.

 It had no injuries.

The incident attracted a crowd of curious on-lookers as police had not collected the body by the time of going to press.

 The area OCPD Mr George Seda said the body will be taken to Mumias Mission Hospital Mortuary as they investigate into the matter.

 According to the area OCS, the body is believed to be of a school girl aged between 13 and 16 years old.

The Irate Kimilili Town residents who descended upon the alleged thief (below) for trying to steal from an Agrovetshop.

Elsewhere, a suspected thief escaped death by a whisker in Kimilili Town of Bungoma County after a mob descended on him with kicks, blows for allegedly trying to steal from an agro-vet in the town.

According to some of the residents the thief had earlier stormed in the agro-vet armed with a knife and a panga and threatened the owner to give him money before an alarm was raised.

 Irrate members of the public then chased the suspect catching up with him in the middle of the town as they mercilessly beat him up.

It took the intervention police from the Kimilili Police Station who saved his life from the public and was taken to Kimilili sub district hospital for medication.

Kimilili Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) Maurice Oyolo condemned the incident and called upon members of the public to forward law breakers to the police rather than resorting to mob justice.

 ''It is unfortunate that someone may end up losing his life out of mob justice yet he/she may be innocent of what he/she may be accused of having done, let the law take its course when dealing with criminal issues,'' said Oyolo. 

Man escapes being lynched over attempted rape

In Apokor village of Moding Location in Teso North, a middle aged man Thursday evening escaped death narrowly after an anxious mob descended upon him with kicks and blow over attempted rape. 

It is alleged that  Oroni Osurut  a married man with four children attempt to rape Lisca Achaleta  who is married with two kids on her way home from the market.

The suspect is said to have attacked the women, dragged her to a nearby bush and assaulted her when she declined to give in to his demands.

The Moding Location Chief Wickliffe Omoding who confirmed the incident, revealed that the woman raised an alarm that sent the public to the scene for her rescue. The residents stormed the place, rescued the woman and took her to the hospital before frog matching the culprit to Moding Police Station baying for his blood.

The administrator said that the man would be arraigned in court and charged with assault and attempted rape.
