In the wake of series of kidnappings and murder of students in some Kenyan Universities, The Minister for Higher Education Prof.Margret Kamar has given assurances that measures are being taken to improve the safety of university students.

Prof. Kamar condemned recent incident where a USIU student was found killed terming it criminal and assured Kenyans that the issue was being investigated calling for patience.

Kamar who was addressing parents, students and teachers at St Paul’s Amukura   High school of Teso South District during an Education day asked university chancellors to introduce guiding and counseling sessions to sensitize students on issues of security, being on high alert and cautious with people they mingle with in a bid to help curb insecurity and inhuman murder of university students.

‘’Chancellors should introduce forums to educate students on security issues and taking caution and desist   being reckless. The issue might seem to be of less concern, but with time we are going to lose our children if a joint effort is not going to be embraced. A young man was murdered  some years back  at Maseno University by alleged girlfriend who stormed his room without the knowledge of security officers who were just around,’’ Explained Kamar.

The minister requested all universities to work with private sectors to improve the living conditions of their students by constructing modern hostels and beef up security in those premises. She also called upon the students to be prudent and report any suspicious characters to police station and relevant authorities.
