Residents of East Bukusu location to benefit from a Sh. 1.6 Million community water project

Residents of Mechimeru, Mufule and other villages in East Bukusu location Bungoma South District will benefit from clean piped water after Mufule Community Water Project was officially commissioned.

Speaking during the official opening, the Bungoma South Water Officer (DWO) Patrick Kuloba said the project was funded by the government through the ministry of water at a tune of Sh 1.6 Million.

Mr. Kuloba said the project is part of the government’s objective of providing clean piped water to its citizens in line with the country’s Vision 2030.

The DWO said apart from the Mufule Community Water projects there are other projects that are currently under construction in the entire district. “We also have Sango water project and East Bukusu water project funded by the ministry of water and they are three quarters complete now,” he pointed out.

Mr. Kuloba said the Mufule Community water project is able to serve 2,500 homesteads within East Bukusu sub location insisting that the project will ensure that the population 65 thousand people in the location have access to clean piped water.

The officer said already they have trained some of the locals on proper water management practices saying they are now their agents who will impart the same knowledge to the rest of the locals to ensure their objective is achieved.

“You should not shy away from the project, as a government we provide the services at a cheaper fee and I believe the price of water is affordable to all of you,” Kuloba urged.

He assured residents that the water is safe for human consumption free from germs and contamination while encouraging them to embrace the usage of piped water to avert possibility of being affected by dirty water related diseases.

Kuloba appealed to heads of learning institutions in the area to liaise with his office so that they can benefit from the water project,” already Mufule Youth Polytechnic, Mufule Primary school, Mechimeru Primary School and Mechimeru dispensary are enjoying our services,” he said.

The area Mp Alfred Khang’ati who graced the commissioning ceremony assured residents of Bungoma South District that the government is determined to ensure they have clean water.

“We understand that some of you right now are walking long distances to fetch water from the nearby water springs downstream, but with such water projects coming up, I know all of you will have a reason to smile,” Khang’ati assured.

Khang’ati who is also the assistant Minister in the office of the Prime Minister said the water projects are not being undertaken in East Bukusu location alone “we have similar projects in Kibabii, Bukembe, Musikoma and Township locations’.
