Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has affirmed that the ongoing unity talks between the party officials and those from New Ford Kenya are at advanced stage and soon a conclusion shall be reached for the two parties to start working as one.

Addressing journalists at Cadex Hotel in Maili Saba after meeting civic leaders from Nzoia County Council and those from Kitale Municipal Council, Wetangula who was accompanied by the party chairman John Munyes, Wetangula said that they were aware that their supporters were eager to know the outcome of the talks and thus urged them to expect something good out of the talks.

"We the leaders know what we have planned and how we are going to execute it and I am sure the people of Trans Nzoia will want to know the ongoing discussions between their leaders, I want to assure you that we are talking and the progress is good and I have no doubt that we are going to get together," Wetangula said.

He said each of them is aware of the essence of unity and thus they are set to stage a huge rally within the area comprising leaders from the two parties including Wetangula himself, Munyes, Wakoli Bifwoli, New Ford Kenya party leader who is also the Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa among others to tell their followers publicly about their new move as they forge ahead as one unit.

At the same time Wetangula who is Sirisia Member of Parliament urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission - IEBC to do an exemplary job in the run to the next general elections so that the country does not plunge into chaos witnessed in the 2007 elections.

However, he pointed out that the electoral commission alone cannot ensure that mandate and urged all stakeholders including politicians, security officers such as police among others to take responsibility to achieve a peaceful and fare polls.

"To achieve this everybody should be responsible whereby politicians should employ peaceful politics, police to arrest and prosecute clash mongers and the treasury should release enough money to run the elections and the voters to register to vote but the bottom line is that the electoral commission must not do anything suspicious before the elections," the minister added.

He noted that politicians who are anticipating defeat are looking for all manner of excuses to petition the elections and thus the commission should not allow a flawed process that can give such leaders loopholes to challenge the results.

On the ongoing debate about the recent proposal by Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo that school girls wear short or miniskirts, Wetangula was opposed to the proposal though he acknowledged the minister's claim that he was misquoted over the matter.

He proposed that for the girls to be safe against greedy and manner-less men who prey on them and interfere with their education, schools should offer uniforms that also include trousers so that they can reduce the risk posed to them in their learning process.
