Justice and Constitution Affairs Minister Eugene Wamalwa has been urged to continue with his presidential campaigns without being bogged down by leaders of Ford Kenya over the need of fostering unity ahead of the polls.

Former Webuye legislator Joash Wamalwa alleges that the Ford Kenya leadership led by its party leader Trade Minister Moses Wetangula are not genuine while blaming them for double speaking.

“During the burial of our Hero Mzee John Manguliechi Ford Kenya leadership said they are in talks with Eugene Wamalwa, but when they visit other parts of the country they speak the direct opposite,” he said.

Wamang’oli said the Saboti Mp should intensify his campaigns across the country claiming the Bukusu community has already accepted him as its leader and that he should now focus on consolidating support from other communities in his quest for the top seat.

The former MP was opposed to calls for Luhya unity before the general elections while insisting that the community is already united.

“It’s the political leaders from the region who are divided because they have vested selfish agendas.Our leaders should stop playing public relations only to talk about unity especially at crowds that seem to be  hostile to them, wananchi have already decided and anybody who will go against their wish will fail politically,” he warned. 

 “We refused to listen to our community during the time of the late Vice President Wamalwa Kijana and we were sent home, they should take it from me as a veteran politician from the region. As leaders we need unity but it must be unity of purpose in the interest of our community and not individual interest aimed at surviving politically,” he added.

Wamang’oli’s sentiments come two days after several leaders from Bungoma County met at a Bungoma hotel and denounced calls for unity between New Ford Kenya and Ford Kenya parties claiming that the unity is not necessary.

The leaders who mainly comprised of aspirants of elective posts on New Ford Kenya party refuted conditions made by Ford Kenya leadership that the former should not field candidates in Bungoma County as the latter will also not field candidates in Trans Nzoia County.

Concerning on when elections should held, Wamang’oli supported legislators who are pushing for the elections to be held in August 2013.

He said that the new constitution provides that elections should be held one year after electoral boundaries are drawn and determined.

“We are almost in the month of August and the new electoral boundaries are yet to be determined, election can be held in August or December next year and this in the new constitution,” he said.
