Residents of Lugari location accuse police officers and other security agencies following deteriorating security situation in the area.

Speaking at Manyonyi village during the funeral service for the late Mzee Elias Mutekwa who died as a result of a robbery with violence, the residents led by several civic leaders accused security apparatus for failing to respond on time to distress calls.

“Our police officers are always busy hunting for local brewers and the drunkards but when an emergency occurs especially when  you are attacked and really  need  their  help they are no where to give you a hand,” said one Lugari resident.

Lugari ward councilor Musa Makhapila pointed out that the police failed to respond appropriately when over 12 villagers including the late Mutekwa were attacked and injured by marauding thugs in Manyonyi, Lumama and Mugumu villages on the night of 7th May this year.

“We are disappointed as leaders two  months along the line no suspect has been apprehended by the police and more painful on that day despite informing the police when the thugs were still harassing the residents at around 11PM, the police visited the scene at 1PM the following day, more than 12 hours after the incidence”, said Makhapila.
