Bishop Okiring Secondary School in Mt.Elgon District has been closed down after the students went on strike on Monday evening claiming that the teachers were disrespectful to them.

The students went on rampage accusing the teachers of having love affairs with female students. They destroyed property of unknown value.

After a long consultative meeting that was held at the school chaired by Mt.Elgon District Commissioner Mr. Mutisya Muli and Education Officer Mr. Fredrick Osewe, a decision was arrived at that the school be closed down as they look in to the matter to come up with a lifelong solution to the problem.

“We have now formed a task force to determine where the problem is and the way forward.”Said Mr. Osewe

According to the DEO Mr. Osewe, the students are not comfortable with the strict rule that were introduced recently that is why they tried their best to disrupt education in the school.

The Education Officer said that they decided to close down the school because of the massive indiscipline cases on the part of the students.

“Even the form fours refused to do their regional exam that is why we have decided to send them home till Thursday.” The DEO said.

However, the meeting unveiled a series of indiscipline cases where a BOG teacher at the school who is a university student was having an affair with a student but they promised to take immediate action towards the teacher.

The school has a total of 150 students with 12 teachers who are employed by the government and this is the same school that was ranked number last in last year KCSE results where the first student got a mean grade of D+.
