Over a hundred boda boda operators of Bidii farm in Trans Nzoia West District of Trans Nzoia County staged a peaceful demonstration to complain over the poor condition of the Road from the area to Kitale town.

Carrying leaves on a convoy of motor bikes, the operators who were joined by the residents complained that the road has been in that state for a very long time hence hampering transport and other activities.

They accused the area Councilor John Tenge for failing to initiate the repair and regular maintenance of the road yet he is about to complete his five-year term as their leader. They said that MR. Tenge uses his tractor to go to town during rainy season and does not feel the pain of the debilitated road while they are forced to foot on the muddy road.

They further said that the road has made it difficult for the boda boda operators to perform their daily duties hence they loose a lot of customers as many of them prefer walking rather than using motorbike.

They said that their security has also been at stake due to many incidences of insecurity in the area citing a recent incident where a boda boda operator was attacked by unknown people near Bidii forest late at night before leaving him injured and taking his motorbike

They also said that they cannot respond to emergency calls at night especially when someone is sick as the poor condition of the road has made it difficult for them to access the nearest Health facilities in the area which was constructed under CDF project  in the area to assist them when they are in need.

“We want the Councilor to tell us why the road has not been repaired he normally uses his tractor when going to town and for us we  struggle using this muddy road everyday," Fred Kisiangani one of the protestors said.

The area Councilor John Tenge who came when the demonstration was on, urged the residents that he will ensure that the road is repaired and that Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) are the ones to organize and give the funds to repair the road.

He denied the allegation that he refused well wishers in the area to construct the road and said that he supports the residents and anyone who is ready to assist in constructing the road.

He added that he is also not happy with the condition of the road saying that within a period of two months over five people have lost their lives near the bridge after being attacked by unknown and many others sick have lost their life  by not reaching the hospital in time to be given medication.
