Teso North Administration Police has been ranked the department that protects, promotes and defends human rights.

This is according to a research conducted by Teso Peace and Human Rights Development Initiative (TEPEHURD) a nongovernmental organization that fights for the rights of citizens.

The organization’s Executive Director Mr.Cleophas Okisai revealed that the Administration Police  have been in  the forefront in protecting the rights of the people in  their lines of duty ,respecting and  handling them well without oppression.

He said that  cases of Administration Police Officers mistreating and  oppressing the civilians and suspects has reduced to over 50/0 and the public have developed trust  on the police by working together and giving them vital information that has led  to crime prevention  and detection in the area.

“Initially a suspect could be manhandled by a police officer in public but currently the trend has been cut down, an indication the police officers have changed and realized that the civilians are also human beings and it has helped reduce crime rate especially with joint efforts, explained Mr.Okisai.

The change exercised by police has led to improved dialogue and interactions between them and the public making it easy for police to respect and fight for the rights of the public.

He was addressing AP officers in Amagoro during a capacity meeting about the face out of the Amnesty International Project.  The meeting was officiated   by AP Chief Commandant Ibrahimu  Mkavana  and a  former  Assistant Police Commission Polycarp   Etyang  .
