Samia District Commissioner George Onyango has dispelled rumors over persons disappearing in the area and being found dead without some body parts.

He said no incident has been registered in the district as is being alleged by some individuals, a move that has raised fear among area residents.

“We have not come across a body with missing parts as being speculated. As the security team in the area we are in control to ensure security is maintained,” said Onyango.

The DC warned area residents against lynching individuals suspected to be involved in criminal activities but instead hand them over to the relevant authorities for the law to take its course.

He was addressing Primary School heads who had raised concern over the insecurity threat to the pupils.

However, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) called on security agents in the area to remain vigilant over the alleged cases of people disappearing and being found dead with some of their body parts missing.

“The security officers should not take the issue lightly but instead ensure investigations are launched over the matter to ascertain the truth,” said the Knut Busia branch executive secretary Mark Oseno, adding that the union is seriously concerned about the issue.

Oseno stressed the need for security officers to protect individuals who will provide vital information that would help apprehend the involved suspects of the criminal activities, which have raised concern for the past few months.

He appealed to parents to remain vigilant on the whereabouts of their children especially as pupils and students prepare to close schools.

“We must remain watchful and ensure our children are protected from people with evil intentions in our community which have recently scared pupils from going to school,” he said.

This comes some few days after a seven year old pupil at Lugala primary school in the area was found dead in a maize farm with marks on the neck indicating that he might have been strangled to death.
