More than 600 youth drawn from different parts of Butere District who participated in the ongoing Kenyaa Defence Force recruitment exercise on Friday returned back home after failing to comply with the physical fitness and requirement of the force.

After running for a distance of 4.5 Km for boys and 2Km for ladies, a total of 20 boys and 3 girls were picked from the many who turned up for the exercise.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Juma Mwinyakai, two of the youth who turned up had academic certificates from the neighboring country of Uganda hence they were not allowed to participate as it would have given them a hard time to authenticate and verify their certificates since the whole process requires a diplomatic arrangement.

Cases of dual citizenship and fake documents were not reported but some of the youth who came had grades below D- and while others had primary certificates.

The fact that only three of the boys who turned up and one of the girls were the only ones taken to join the force left many of the youth discouraged as some of them had traveled from as far as Mombasa to come and give a try.
