Primary schools from Western Province led by 5 primary schools, Mirembe primary from Likuyani, St. Angela Special School Mumias, Booker Academy of Kakamega County, Logemo primary from Vihiga County, Spring Board Academy have impressively performed   in the ongoing national music festivals being held in Meru thus qualifying for the Gala.

Focus now shifts to Secondary schools which will be participating in the festival as from today (Saturday) till Thursday Next week as primary schools exit from the festivals.

Primary schools from western region who participated in the various classes in the festival faced stiff competition from other schools, but they emerged victorious in their classes and the best two out of the five who will be performing at the Gala at State House.

Booker Academy was named the best in singing game, Mirembe primary who are champions from last year retained the folk dance champion title with a luhya dance, logemo primary emerged the best with an English poem, Spring Board Academy was the best with a Kiswahili poem and St. Angela who competed under a special class 851 winning too.

Lugala primary from Kakamega East District emerged the winner with three items under the special sponsored classes.

Speaking to West Fm, Bazil Muyonga the composer and trainer of Lugala primary revealed that he was proud of his pupils despite coming from humble backgrounds they were able to deliver on the songs sponsored by Equity Bank and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The festival has brought together 135 public primary schools from western region and 16 from private, 165 public secondary schools will be participating alongside 7 private secondary schools from the region.

Security has been intensified in Meru with police officers being  seen patrolling within town and specifically at the venue of the festivals, checking each and every individual and vehicle accessing Kaaga primary and secondary school, Meru school and Meru Teachers College where the festival is ongoing.
