Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere has confirmed that 90,000 police officers that had been proposed by the IEBC to provide security and maintain peace during elections will be provided.

Iteere who was speaking in Nairobi said that 7,000 police officers will be graduating from Kiganjo Police Station and the government has also approved immediate recruitments of police officers who will assist in the coming general elections.

Iteere has further cautioned on leaders to desist from sponsoring and inciting the public to cause chaos prior to and after the general elections saying that they will be prosecuted.

“I want to remind all of us that election is not an event or a destination but a relay race in which the different stages of the race work together for the trophy to be won a single witness at any stage can be very costly.”

Iteere called on Kenyans to monitor political activities closely and demand a departure from the past saying that is a collective responsibility since there are some who still think that violence must be a feature of a political competition.
