Residents of Kolongolo Market in Kwanza District woke up Monday morning to a rude shock after they found an 80 year octogenarian raped and killed by unknown people in her house at the market.

Confirming the incident, Kolongolo Chief Christopher Amunze said that the body of Veronica Wafubwa was discovered by a woman neighbor who was notified by a 12-year girl who stayed with the woman.

The chief said the perpetrators arrived at the house at the wee hours of the night, chased away the girl and embarked on their heinous act in which they are believed to have gang-raped her before killing her.

The administrator said that on learning of the incident, security officers and administrators in conjunction with residents laid an ambush in the village and managed to arrest three suspects who have since been taken to Kitale Police Station as investigations continue.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Kitale District Hospital Mortuary.

Kwanza District Officer Millicent Ramaita condemned the incident and assured that investigations shall be conducted into the incident to ensure all the perpetrators brought to book.
