As residents of Mwamba sub location, Lugari sub county continue to spend sleepless nights following increased spate of robberies that have been reported in the area, officer commanding Lumakanda police station Mr. William Oyugi has assured them of their security.
Addressing a gathering at Mwamba primary school, Mr. Oyugi reiterated that the government had put in place enough measures that will curtail further acts of lawlessness.
“The government will not let such acts of lawlessness to escalate, our security apparatus are leaving no stone unturned as we trail the perpetrators of a recent spate of robberies and I can assure you we have made tremendous progress in investigations,” he hinted adding that they had already managed to arrest five suspects.
The officer revealed that police had intensified their patrols especially at night to curb wanton insecurity in the area arguing that most of the incidents in the sub county were
committed at that time.
“In Lugari most crimes are committed at night therefore our officers have intensified patrols at night,” said Oyugi.
He complemented the public for ensuring cordial relationship with the police pointing out that such a relationship enabled them pass important security information arguing that all residents had a responsibility to play in ensuring their security.
“Am appealing to residents to volunteer crucial information that will lead to the arrest of criminals”, he said pledging to treat such information with utmost confidence.
The OCS also appealed to bodaboda operators to be wary of their customers adding that investigations had revealed that most thugs moved around on motorcycles during the night.
He noted that reports indicated that bodaboda operators knowingly or unknowingly have been aiding criminals execute their vices both during day and night time.
The OCS regretted that several gangs of criminals have in fact lured and recruited a section of bodaboda men into their illegal trade with assurance of attractive payments.
Consequently, he issued a directive ordering all bodaboda operators within Mwamba township and its environs to close business by 8. pm every day and warned that anybody found faulting this directive will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law on public security.
