Learning activities at Mwikhupo primary school in Kanduyi constituency are in a state of limbo after strong winds blew off a section of a standard six classroom that coincidentally, had solar panels and other equipment that used to light up the school since it has no electricity.
The school’s headmaster Francis Khaemba said the unfortunate incident happened at around 5.30 pm on Monday saying no pupil was hurt in the incident but they’ve been forced to relocate the pupils since the building has developed wall cracks which pose a danger to the pupils.
He disclosed that the administration block was also affected and teachers have been forced to relocate and are currently operating in the school’s verandah while pupils study under a tree.
Mr. Khaemba said they have a challenge of shortage of classrooms in the school due to the high population saying the CDF kitty catered for two classrooms in 2015 that have not yet been completed saying they would’ve come in handy.
He called upon well-wishers to help them renovate the classrooms as the schools break for the April holidays so as to enable the pupils to resume classes normally next term.
He disclosed that Mwikhupo Primary school serves residents from both Bungoma and Kakamega Counties and has increased their access to education.
