A number of Nandi MCAs boycotted Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey’s address on the state of the government and devolution amidst allegations that they were bribed by the Governor to abscond the sitting due to political differences.
Out of the 39 members, only 13 were present during the sitting which went on regardless. 13 Senators were also present, as they had visited the Assembly as part of their Senate mashinani drive and for familiarization purposes.
While addressing the Assembly, Senator Cherargey said the Senate and Count Assembly are the key pillars of devolution which play critical roles in legislation and oversight, to enable Counties to function properly and effectively.
He encouraged the County Assembly to take advantage of the mechanisms that have been put in place by the Senate in an effort to ensure more engagements are accomplished between the two bodies.
Concerning the issue of mining and mineral resources, he said a petition to the Senate on gold mining activities in Chemase and Kapsaos. He reiterated that communities within mining areas are supposed to benefit but instead the area residents are being exploited.
