Nzoia region soccer giants Bukembe made good on their hopes of making it to the semi finals of the national secondary school games after a narrow 1-0 win against Kathungi.The team started on a negative note by losing 2-0 to Barding.
Champions, Passenga from Aberdare rallied from behind and snatched a point against minnows Green Palms from Coast in their second pool B’ match.
In the encounter staged at Moi Stadium, Passenga fell behind courtesy of Shukran Muramba’s super goal in the 30th minute from a counter attack that ended with Zubedi Mohammed slicing a superb cross to the former opener.
Despite creating numerous chances, Passenga failed to open up their opponents till the break.
On resumption, Green Palm tightened their defense resolving to remain in their box but could not hold on anymore when John Aure’s strike in the 81st minute leveled the scores.
Passenga defeated Subunley 3-0 in their first match of the group.
“The game was difficult, things did not work out as planned and this puts us in a difficult situation. We have a tough match against Laiser Hill tomorrow.We have to quickly work on our mistakes and hope that we will use all the chances we create,” Passenga coach, Daniel Musomba said.
In another match of the group at Kisumu Boys, last year finalist Laiser Hill (Metropolitan) had an easy day out after thumping past newcomers Subunley (Northern) 7-1 in an encounter that Peter Kinyanjui bagged six goals.
Subunley kicked off the match on a high note with Suleiman Hussein finding the back of the net after only six minutes played.
However, their joy only lasted six minutes as Kinyanjui equalized in the 12th minute and added the second in the 29th minute before the breather.
In the second half, he became dangerous with strikes in the 57th, 59, 69 and 82nd minute before Richard Odanda completed the rout in the 89th minute.
In the girls’ football, Aberdare representatives Nginda Girls kept their hopes for a semi final berth alive following a 2-0 triumph over Kirigara from Highlands 2-0.
They now top the group with six points after winning all their matches in Pool A.
Rael Mueni struck in the 15th minute before Irene Amutabi scored the second in the 38th minute.
“Our aim is represent the country in the East Africa games in Eldoret.This does not mean that we underrate our opponents rather we will take every match it as a final,” said Nginda coach Clinton Otolo.
In another match of the group, Nyakach came from behind to snatch a one all draw against Olympic high from Metropolitan.

The Lake region champions found themselves one player less after ten minutes played when Mercy Airo was given a sent off for slapping an opponent.
Olympic took advantage with series of counter attacks that paid off in the 30th minute when Dorcas Okwomo gave them the lead.
Jemmima Naomi equalised for Nyakach in the 52nd minute.
Defending champions Wiyeta girls won their second match of Pool B after brushing aside Sindo 2-0 while Mau’s Itigo were humiliated 7-0 by St. Johns (Coastal) in another Pool B match.
Volleyball boys defending champions Malava qualified for the semis after thrashing Cheptil 3-1 to lead the group.
The two teams met in last year’s final with malava smashing cheptile 3-0 to qualify for East and Central Africa games.
In the other volleyball boys match of the day Hospital Hill crashed Wambeli 3-0 sets.
Lugulu girls hammered Tetu girls 3-0 sets to qualify for the semis topping group A with six points.
This was the second win for the Nzoia regional champions having washed Sega 3-0 sets in the 1st day.
