NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi has castigated IEBC of pilling pressure on NASA to participate in the repeat presidential elections. Speaking at Maweni village in Lugari during the burial of Victor Mudidi, the former bodyguard to Lugari MP Ayub Savula who died a fortnight ago in a road accident, Mudavadi said they will not participate in the repeat presidential election because the ground is not level.
Mudavadi said that IEBC as currently constituted cannot guarantee the electorate a verifiable, free, and fair elections going by revelations made by former commissioner Roselyne Akombe.
The ANC Party leader said both IEBC and Jubilee must understand that the opposition coalition’s resolve to have reforms before polls has nothing to do with individuals at NASA.
“We are fighting for our future generations so that when their time comes and they want to lead this country, their votes must never be stolen. This kind of injustice cannot continue forever,” he said.
According to him, the elections cannot be held in the current state where there is no sufficient security in the country, the economy is crippling and the presiding referee is still the same person who bungled the August 8th elections.
“How can we go to the polls with the same referee. IEBC is busy recruiting presidential candidates instead of organising for fair polls. Our stand remains and we want free, credible and fair elections,” he said.
Mudavadi who was accompanied by Nambale legislator Sakwa Bunyasi and his Lugari counterpart Ayub Savula cautioned Jubilee government against engineering police brutality saying that peace was a product of justice and fairness and can only be achieved if Kenyans are allowed to exercise their democratic rights.
Lugari MP Ayub Savula said since the country is divided over the controversial repeat polls, president Uhuru Kenyatta should call off the October 26th elections to create room for dialogue between him and his rival Raila Odinga.
“The ball is in his court and he must be ready for talks with his competitors to avert a crisis in the country and let Kenyans prepare fully for a fresh election,” he said.
Mr Bunyasi wondered how Jubilee was focused on having the elections conducted on Thursday without critical reforms being undertaken to ensure there is a level playing ground for all participants. He urged Western Kenya residents to ignore the exercise and keep off voting centres.
