NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has made a fresh claim that the Jubilee government is planning to use military officers to rig the August 8 elections. He made these allegations during a press briefing in Nairobi on Friday.
He stated that the government is planning a military operation and that 226 military personnel are being trained at Mariakani barracks. “The attempt by President Uhuru to involve some members of our military to interfere with the August 8th election is illegal and amounts to a coup. These new soldiers will readily take orders from authorities. This is unacceptable. We are not that stupid,” said Raila Odinga.
The NASA leader also claimed that the Jubilee government is planning to cut electricity supply in Kibera and Mathare in the plot to rig elections. “There are plans to cut power and water in these places in the pretext of containing cholera,” he said.
He said that Kenyans are going to the election with a predetermined outcome. “We cannot go to the election whose outcome has already been determined.” He added that underground and satellite jammers are being installed to ensure no transmission of communication
NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka said Jubilee has enlisted loyal officers to corrupt authorities in the poll. He also said that counterfeit ballot papers are being handed out in the central region of Kenya to manipulate elections outcome.
The opposition leader said the officers have been picked from units including GSU, Kenya Airport Police Unit, traffic and the dog unit. The Opposition has, on several occasions, accused the President of plotting to rig the poll using the army. The Jubilee administration has denied the claims.
