Nurses in the country have called off their strike to resume normal duty. The strike lasted nine days, and patients all over the country felt the weight brought about by the medical practitioners’ absence in hospitals, given that doctors too had gone on strike due to unfulfilled pledges, surrounding the CBA earlier signed with the government.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) through called off the strike after negotiations with the Council of governors and Health Ministry. A recognition agreement has been signed and they are meant to resume duties immediately, with the outstanding issues resolved. Confirming the strike cancellation, KNUN Secretary General Seth Panyako indicated that all nurses will start work immediately, “We have resolved all matters in the Recognition agreement,” he said, as he expressed his delight with the deal signed.
The medics strike had caused a stir, with the government deploying KDF medics to Kenyatta National Hospital to attend to the patients.
