The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Lugari branch has refuted reports linking its member to the killing of an Amani National Congress (ANC) supporter at Lumani trading centre on Monday night.
Led by the branch chair Daraja Nabii Nabwera, who is also the Lugari parliamentary ODM candidate, the official who condoled with the family of the late Gerishom Kwoba denied the party involvement in his murder.
The official said that both the deceased and the suspects were ANC supporters and reports that the suspect was an ODM member were misleading.
In their press release, the official stated that on 19th June 2017 at about 19:30 hours Mr. Gerishom Kwoba an ANC supporter was stabbed to death by Nabiswa Juma another supporter of ANC, “the two are known to be area MP Ayub Savula’s supporters and it is clear that the two were from same clan and neighbours.”
They further explained that on the same day the two among others attended a Ford Kenya rally addressed by Dr Bonny Khalwale at Lumani market where Kwoba was received by Mr Khalwale in Ford Kenya and even dressed him in Ford Kenya regalia. They even exchanged
pleasantries.
Later the two among other supports of ANC retreated for a drink at Nasiloli bar on the same market where the deceased met his death.
According to the officials, no ODM member was present in the bar or in the Khalwale’s Ford Kenya rally at Lumani and there is no way the party was involved in the odious act. They played off information released to the media by area MP Ayub Savula insinuating that ODM was to blame for the death claiming that the purpose and intention was political; to cause tension and gain political mileage.
They accused their colleagues in ANC for resorting to cheating politics, propaganda, slander and intimidation.
The officials also condemned an incident where ANC supporters caused disturbance and mayhem at Maturu along Webuye – Eldoret highway on Tuesday night where they attacked Hon. Nabii Nabwera’s car, Hon. Mispela Mulari’s car an ODM MCA candidate for Lwandet ward and harassed Mr. George Wasike of ODM among others and robbed them of cell phones, money and other valuable.
They called for thorough investigations into the two incidents and ensure the culprits face the full wrath of the law. “We have recorded statement at the Lugari Sub County criminal investigation office and Lumakanda police station,” they said.
