The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board has nullified the results of the Busia Gubernatorial nomination exercise. The Elections Board cited irregularities in the exercise which was marred by tension and delays, “The Board has noticed major irregularities in the Busia Gubernatorial nomination exercise which if announced can cause discordance among members of the County,” read the ODM statement. The repeat of the nomination exercise is set to be held on Tuesday 25th April 2017.
The results from other slots will remain unaffected and the NEB confirmed they’ve received results from Bungoma and Machakos too from the respective returning officers.
Funyula MP Paul Otuoma had insisted that the results were rigged and that the whole exercise was just a farce. He cited a case where the returning officer was the Governor’s worker, “I questioned the National Elections Board why that was possible,” he said, adding that 80,000 votes were garnered by Governor Ojaamong from the area where the specific returning officer hails from. He had indicated that the final decision by the ODM National elections Board would be vital.
