Members of the county assembly of Kakamega want governor Wycliffe Oparanya to halt the political rallies he is engaged in and instead deal with the health issues facing the county.
Led by the Mahiakalo MCA Cleophas Malala, they called upon Kakamega county governor Oparanya to also sack the county health executive or else risk impeachment.
Addressing members of the press, Malala said that it was not right for the governor to go on with his campaigns while the sick at the hospital risk their lives due to lack of services.
Nurses in public hospitals are on a strike demanding for promotions and betterment of their working conditions.
The strike kicked off Monday 5th September with the union of nurses standing its ground that their staff will not go back to work if their demands are not met.
Malala said that the nurses and other employees at the assembly suffer due to lack of priority by the county government.
He explained that the governor’s residence being constructed in Likuyani, roads being tarmacked, markets being built should be put on a halt first and the nurses issues addressed.
He was seconded by nominated MCA Alex Khamasi who called upon the the governor to send the health executive Penina Mukabane for failing in her duties.
Khamasi argued that Mrs. Mukabane ought to have been sacked last year when the agriculture committee at the assembly presented a report showing that she had embezzled county governments funds.
Khamasi wonders why instead of a sack, Mrs. Mukabane was promoted to the health docket.
