An irate mob has killed a man suspected of stealing chickens at Majengo village, Lumakanda location in Lugari Sub County. Speaking to West media at the scene of the incident Lumakanda Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Mr. William Oyugi confirmed that the incident occurred at about 4.00am on Wednesday.
“The deceased, whose identity was yet to be established, was arrested by area residents who claimed he had stolen eight chicken belonging to one of them,” stated Oyugi.
Oyugi, who rushed to the scene with police officers, added the mob assaulted the suspect using crude weapons before dumping his lifeless body on the road.
“We found the body in the middle of the road with eight chicken inside an old sack beside it and there was no one at the scene, not even the owner of the chicken,” added Oyugi.
The body was removed to Webuye County Hospital mortuary in Bungoma County.
Security organs have launched investigations into the incident.
“We are urging members of the public to report cases of missing persons to nearby police stations and posts to assist in identifying the body,” he appealed.
The OCS has sternly warned the public against taking the law into its hands and instead urged the locals to inform security officers of all criminal incidents, both real and suspected.
