Parents urged to nurture children’s talents
As schools are set to close for first term, parents across the Country have been asked to nurture young talents by leading the youngsters in the right direction.
Bungoma County Director of Education Charles Anyika has called upon parents to show the direct direction to the children especially during the April break in a bid to ensure they grow up well.
Anyika retaliated the need to guide and cancel children, saying the rate at which children are indulging in evil deeds is alarming.
He has appealed to parents to support co curriculum activities in a bid to nurture talents, noting that many parents have ignored sports activity terming them useless.
He cited examples of celebrated athletes from Riftvalley who have made it in life through co curriculum section, urging parents to support and encourage such young talents.
” Many parents do not see the importance of financing such wonderful activities like sports, they think the government should be the one to support everything in schools ,this is wrong as parents we ought to come out and mentor young talents by supporting them, you never know what will happen in future,” said Anyika
Speaking in his office, Anyika challenged parents to find time with their children in order to know what challenges they face and also to lead them in the right path.
The director stated that during holidays, many children go astray noting that the only remedy for increasing number of children dropping out of school is guiding and cancelling to know what problems affects the youngsters.
“Many schools will record rising number of dropouts and teenage pregnancy when the school opens hence it is vital to know what problems face the scholars.”, he stated.
He blamed the high number of girls dropping out of School due to early pregnancies to night dance especially in funerals, asking to parents to ensure girls do not attend such forums in order to curb such cases.
