Leaders from West Pokot County have urged government agencies to arrest and give life imprisonment sentences to criminals wreaking havoc along the borders of West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo and Turkana counties, adding that when are released they immediately distort peace in the community.
They said that they will not allow one or two people to cause tension and animosity among the communities which have been living in peace.
The leaders asked security personnel working along the borders of the four counties to ensure culprits who engage in cattle rustling and other crimes are arrested and prosecuted.
Led by West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and Pokot South member of parliament David Pkossing, the leaders strongly condemned the insecurity incidents happening in the area.
Speaking at Kapchemogen village, the leaders said law enforcement agencies should do something when it comes to the perpetrators of crime and ensure the offenders face life imprisonment. Kachapin called on the security officers to arrest anyone committing a crime.
Pokot South member of parliament David Pkossing defended Tiaty member of parliament Mr Asman Kamama saying that he was not involved in the deaths of the politicians who were last week killed in Baringo County. He called on the security forces to be proactive and to beef up security. The legislator termed the recent murder of politicians in Baringo as ‘pure assassination’, and called on the government to fully investigate the case.
