Police in Kitale arrested a man in possession of an AK-47 gun with 21 rounds of ammunition believed to have been used by gangs to terrorize residents. Confirming the arrest, Trans Nzoia administration police Commandant Charles Aketch said the suspect Job Wekesa Chesoli was arrested at Kibagenge area in Waitaluk ward, Kiminini sub county following a tip off from residents who informed the officers about the suspect’s criminal activities.
The commandant said that crimes have been rampant, with residents being attacked and shot, arguing that the arrested suspect and other accomplices may be behind the increased criminal activities in the County. He outlined that gangs have been terrorizing residents with several cases reported at Lessos in Kwanza sub county, and parts of Kibomet in Kiminini sub county.
“Cases of insecurity within our County involving people being shot have increased and we think the arrested suspect has been involved in the illegal acts,” said Aketch.
He appealed to the residents to work hand in hand with law enforcers by giving them vital information that will enable them to track suspects after they collaborated with the officers to reveal the suspect’s identity.
Several Kibomet residents expressed their sentiments following the arrest, claiming they had been spending sleepless nights due to the high number of crimes in recent days. They lauded police for what they termed a tremendous job, explaining that the arrests must be intensified as several accomplices are still at large.
