President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged all Kenyans to register with NHIF (National Health Insurance Fund) to help alleviate costs of treatment. Speaking in Murang’a during the funeral service of the late Susan Wairimu Chege, President Kenyatta said no one knows when an ailment requiring treatment will arise, “I urge all Kenyans to register with NHIF. No one knows when they will need treatment,” he said.
He said the government has decided to focus its attention on the medical cover, “We have decided that after five years we ensure all Kenyans have NHIF cover so that in every community when an issue arises one can go to hospital and get treatment without paying,” he said.
He further said the government will expand the NHIF reach so that every Kenyan will be able to access the medical cover, “This will ensure any Kenyan who will need treatment will get treatment,” said President Kenyatta.
