President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured international observers that the country is ready for the general elections. He told European Union Election Observation Mission (EOM) that all institutions involved in election preparations are ready. “The elections will be held on August 8th as required by the constitution and the government has taken steps to ensure Kenyans exercise their democratic right and choose their leaders without interference,” said President Kenyatta.
During the meeting with the officials at State House, the President said the elections will be free, fair and credible, adding that they’ll ensure the country is safe during and after the elections. “We have also taken measures to ensure the polls are credible, free and fair as well as ensuring the country will be safe during and after the elections,” he said.
The head of the EU Election Observation Mission to Kenya, Ms Marietje Schaake was accompanied by EOM deputy chief observer Ms Hannah Roberts and EU Ambassador to Kenya Stepano Dejak. The EU observers are set to meet other presidential candidates.
