President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained a tough stance against those involved in graft cases, saying everyone caught in corruption should bear the consequences individually. Speaking during the issuance of 50,000 title deeds at Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi East, President Kenyatta said no one should try to use tribal inclinations to defend himself, “If you stole then you carry your own cross!” he said. In light of the NYS scandal, he has assured Kenyans that all property that has been stolen will be retrieved, “The money will help us to build roads and even improve much needed access to water,” he said.
He said petty tribal politics shouldn’t be used to defend graft suspects, “If you are a thief you’ll be arrested and jailed,” said the President. He further affirmed that that the tax Kenyans pay should be channeled back to them through setting up, projects which will improve lives.
Moreover, he said the national and county governments will set up projects geared towards rehabilitation of roads in Nairobi, with Kshs 4 billion set aside by the national government. “We don’t want contractors who will tread here and there and yet in the end, there is no work that has been accomplished,” said President Kenyatta, adding that roads in Eastlands will be renovated first. He issued a warning to contractors, saying the leaders will be back after six months to check the progress and urged residents to also be keen and ensure meaningful work is being done, “Everyone should be responsible and know that the money belongs to Kenyans,” he said.
