Youth Agenda has revealed a review of Presidential aspirants’ manifestos in relation to the issues affecting the youth. Four of the eight Presidential candidates who were cleared by IEBC had their manifestos published and made available online.
“The manifestos that were available and reviewed include NASA, Jubilee party, Third Alliance party manifestos and Prof. Micheal Wainaina’s, an independent candidate,” stated Mrs Susan Mwongare, Youth Agenda CEO.
Mrs Mwongare pointed out that concerning the issue of youth unemployment, which is the biggest concern the youth have, Jubilee Party and Professor Micheal Wainana’s Manifestos have articulated the specific youth policy and actions to be undertaken to solve the problem, adding that NASA and Thirdway Alliance have captured job creation interventions but haven’t highlighted how the youth will be benefit. “Our findings were that only Jubilee and Professor Micheal have outlined youth related institutions that they proposed to establish or expand,” she noted.
However, the presidential and gubernatorial candidates have been urged to take youth interests very seriously and be committed to including the youth in their mainstream administration, to let them be part of policy formulations and implementations so that they can determine their own destiny, not forgetting catering for youth entrepreneurs.
