Over 25,000 new registered voters are expected to be registered in Sabatia Constituency during the ongoing voter registration exercise that kicked off across the country.
Area Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Coordinator Benson Ambuko says they are targeting mass registration of people as voters in the region.
He said the exercise kicked off well in many registration centres across the region and many residents turned up for the exercise.
“We didn’t encounter any challenges on day one and we hope the exercise will gain momentum as we progress,” Ambuko said.
He said before the exercise commenced he met all stakeholders across the Constituency to plan on how they can mobilize locals who are not registered as voters to realize the need for doing so.
“I urge local leaders and church leaders to help in mobilization the locals through civic education to come and register in large numbers as voters,” said Ambuko.
Ambuko reiterated the importance of the one month exercise, pointing out that it’s the last one before the general election.
“There is no other massive voter registration exercise that is going to be conducted by the (IEBC) after this one, locals must take up the responsibility of making sure they are registered before the period ends,” he said.
