Teachers from the Rift valley region have declared support for the sitting Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Mr. Wilson Sossion ahead of the upcoming annual delegate’s conference in December.
Wilson Sossion who is also a nominated Member of Parliament wants to retain his seat as KNUT’s Secretary General. The campaigns have been intensified ahead of the elections scheduled for 13th and 14th December where 1887 delegates will elect candidates.
Speaking in Kapenguria during the Rift valley regional council meeting of 25 branches, Rift valley KNUT Secretary Mr. Ely Koringo said that the region fully supports the Secretary-General Sossion. “We don’t want to see anyone going either way,” said Koringo.
They resolved to vote as a block in the coming by-elections. “We shall remain bound and we have made a unanimous decision said Koringo, who said, however, all the candidates should crisscross the country for campaigns.
They resolved that the NEC positions for members who have retired should be filled and those have exited the service of the Union like Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis who held a position should be replaced now that there is a candidate for that position. Mr. Koringo said that they will also replace Ms. Alice Tuwei who was appointed for the executive post.
The leadership of the region called on teachers to refrain from making statements which can bring divisions in the union. “We must work as a team for the betterment of the Union. Our unity is our strength,” he said.
They resolved to work together with the NEC members, the Secretary-General and the Regional Council members for the advancement of the union. The region Chairman Mr. Tony Nasia said that the union is now strong and will not set their dependency on TSC for recognition.
