Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi has defended himself from criticism leveled against him by Keiyo MCA Emmanuel Waswa and Kwanza MCA John Likovere over his inability to take the motion to parliament that seeks to know why the road from Kitale town to parts of Kolongolo and Keiyo had not been tarmacked despite the Governments assurance of doing so.
The legislator speaking to The Weekly Western Chronicles said that plans are at an advanced stage for construction work to commence once the heavy rains currently pounding the area subside.
He appealed to the residents to be patient and once construction starts he will ensure quality work is done.
He, however, criticized heavy lorries which have been using the same road and blamed them for being the problem of road destruction .
He further appealed to the County government of Trans-Nzoia to amend laws that will see the weight being carried by lorries plying that route standardized to avoid cases of overloading currently being experienced.
He told off his critics whom he said are out to make politics out of the situation and instead told the MCAs to first make sure that they come up with legislation which would help check on the lorries using the road to parts of Keiyo and West Pokot county which he termed to have been plying the road without being taxed.
The legislator criticized those politicians who he said have created politics out of the impassable road now and called upon them to stand together in seeing that the plight of residents of the area are solved in an amicable way without engaging in unhealthy politics that he said was not good for the region at this time round.
The Government had promised to tarmac the road from Kitale’s veterinary to Kolongolo and plans started on how the road had to be constructed but it suddenly stopped and for several months now there has been no progress.
The two have threatened to mobilize local residents to demonstrate over the sorry state of the road and have put to task the Mp to take it up with the National government to know why work on the road was suddenly stopped.
Construction of the Kitale Kolongolo road would ease transportation of goods and services and aid in the growth of the region.
