Deputy President William Ruto has highlighted the development projects accomplished during his and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, saying that with the formation of Jubilee, they have made a new firm foundation for the politics of the country going forward. “In 2013 we had 35% of schools connected to electricity,” he said, adding that at the moment, 97% of all schools are connected to electricity. Speaking at the Jubilee convention at Kasarani, he said every part of Kenya has felt Jubilee’s transformational agenda. “By December this year, all students will have their laptop gadgets,” he said. He also was quick to point out that they have eliminated examination fees for all pupils in school.
The Standard Gauge Railway project is one of the main projects being undertaken by the government and the Deputy President said the project will be a success. “Construction of SGR first phase from Mombasa-Nairobi will be completed by June 1,” he said, “On June 1, 2017 at 8am, the SGR will carry its first passenger to Mombasa from Nairobi.”
On Agriculture, he said the government has expanded access to subsidised fertilisers. “We have ensured that all farmers have access to government subsidised fertilisers,” he said. The launch of the Jubilee party has drawn much fanfare and attention, and according to the Deputy President the first steps of the steadily burgeoning political family were made with the formation of TNA and URP parties, and indicating they have remained strong even when they were not favourites. “When we started with Uhuru Kenyatta, all the odds were against us,” he said, “It is not an accident that the Jubilee family has remained energetic and united.”
Former Kwanza MP applauded the efforts to merge various parties into one, “This party is unifying the whole country,” he said. He said that he is happy to be part of history, adding that Uhuru Kenyatta will be re-elected as president. Bungoma Senator Ken Lusaka once again affirmed that the party for development and growth for youth is Jubilee, and that it will bring all the Kenyans together.
