One of the scholars and political activist from Likuyani Sub County has appealed to area Public Health Department to allow pupils to go back to Ludodo primary school after he intervened and funded construction of toilets following the closure of the school due to deplorable sanitation standards.
The school which is in Sinoko ward, Likuyani Sub County has remained closed for the last four weeks after area department of public health ordered its closure, citing lack of sufficient toilets to cater for the huge number of pupils and teachers.
Heavy rains that pounded the area early last month destroyed the institution’s toilets, leaving one only, which according to area public health officer Mr. Benbelus Khayumbi could not serve the entire school fraternity which has a population of over 1,000 pupils.
Briefing the press after attending a church service at St. Clare Luyekhe Catholic Church in Likuyani Mr. Deberious Shikuku Wafula said the school will reopen soon once the ongoing construction of six toilets was completed.
“Construction work will officially end on Monday,” said Shikuku who was optimistic the school will reopen immediately after the completion.
Shikuku expressed disappointment over what has been described as work done by the contractor who won the tender for construction of toilets at the institution under the National Constituency Development Fund (NCDF).
“It is regrettable the contractor did substandard work from the Kshs 1million tender awarded to him by the CDF,” observed Shikuku, urged the department of public health to immediately lift the ban to enable resumption of teaching and learning activity.
Shikuku urged the electorate in the area to carefully scrutinize suitability of aspirants for various elective seats ahead of next year’s general elections, “so as to vote in development conscious leaders,” he added.
Efforts to reach the school’s head teacher, Mr. Vincent Wekutu were futile as he could not be traced on his cell phone.
Parents and locals who spoke to the media hailed Shikuku’s intervention and encouraged other well to do individuals with origins from the area to emulate the same.
