Tarmacked Road construction in Bumula starts
Road works at the Musikoma-Buyofu-Mungatsi road starts after the contractor moved on site after the government finalized the tender process.
The road which begins from Musikoma; Buyofu to Mungatsi in Bumula and Nambale constituencies will cost a total of Ksh.2 billion.
Speaking during the launch at Mateka Market yesterday, Bungoma County Governor Ken Lusaka said that the tarmacking of the road will improve the economy of the area.
Lusaka said the road had been a thorn in the flesh for subsequent regimes and the narrative would now change, “Let those who have been saying that the jubilee government has sidelined the region find another narrative,” he said.
Lusaka said the contractor will take 30 months to complete the construction of this road.
He called on the locals of Bumula to cooperate with the contractor in making his job easier and not to become an impediment.
He said that the machinery that will kick start the construction of the road will be on site next week where the tarmacking work will start officially.
Bumula MP, Boniface Otsuula and his Nambale counterpart John Bunyasi asked the contractor to employ 100 local youths to help him during the construction period.
The legislators called on the contractor to ensure they empower the locals in order for them to fully own the project.
“We have enough man power and we want the locals to benefit from this project, you are their hope and want you to employ them so that they can benefit from it and feed their families,” said Otsiula.
He said it was the first road project in the area and said this was after much lobbying and thanked the Jubilee administration for their efforts to improve the lives of the people.
Bunyasi asked local Mps to support the area governors for the realization of development in the larger Western region.
