The meeting between the public university lecturers and the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i clearly didn’t bear fruits. This is after the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) through its Secretary General Constantine Wasonga said that the strike is still on and that they’ll only call it off when the government implements their CBA.
The chairperson of the union said that they are making efforts to ensure they meet and negotiate well with the government concerning their CBA. They said the strike is still on after the government offered them only 3% of what they had requested.
Union leaders said they want a reasonable counter offer, citing that the CBA must be adhered to given that they want it signed so that they can go back to work.
CS Matiang’i, however, expressed the government’s determination to end the ongoing strike as it has greatly affected learning in universities, adding that they are on course to restore order by the end of February.
