Learning activities at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) have been paralyzed due to the ongoing national lecturers’ strike organized by the University Academic Staff Union(UASU) members.
Addressing the press today at the University, the UASU general secretary for Masinde Muliro chapter Prof. Sammy Kubasu said that the strike, which began on the 1st of November this year, will continue until the government fully implements the Collective Bargaining Agreement that was agreed in March this year. Kubasu said that lecturers will not accept a half implementation of the CBA.
Meanwhile, the Kenya secondary schools heads association (KESSHA) chairman in Kakamega county Godfrey Owuor, has questioned the government’s plan to allow all pupils who did their KCPE exams this year to join secondary schools. Speaking to the press at St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School today, the Chair said that in as much as all children have a right to education, the government has not consulted the key stakeholders for the plan. He said that it’s unfortunate that the schools have closed without any arrangement on how the entire plan will be implemented.
