Students who plan to join university have been advised to be very careful when choosing courses they want to pursue given the volatility of the job market. While addressing university students, Webuye East parliamentary aspirant Dr. Iyaya Wanjala said the job market is always shifting, and it’s advisable for students to be careful with the jobs they want and the available courses. “At the moment, we have so many graduates but most of them have done courses which aren’t marketable, therefore, getting jobs has become difficult,” he said.
He advised the students to go for courses which can enable them to pursue self-employment opportunities instead of waiting for white collar jobs.
He promised to distribute bursaries equally to the needy students if he will be given an opportunity in the coming elections terming the current leadership as a total failure which has failed to support education in the required way. “Bursaries have been given to relatives, friend and to the rich people instead of benefiting the needy citizens,” he said, adding that most students haven’t finished their studies due to lack of school fees.
Webuye East has seven contestants among them the incumbent Alfred Wekesa Sambu, Dan Simiyu, and Job Chelongo among others.
