West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo has defended foreign envoys working in Kenya after being accused by the opposition of meddling in Kenyan politics. This comes after foreign envoys led by US ambassador Bob Godec and the British High Commissioner urged the opposition to recognize President Uhuru Kenyatta as the President and William Ruto as his Deputy.
The Governor insisted that ambassadors working in Kenya have a role to play in Kenya hence it’s good to follow their advice. “Ambassadors represent the interests of their countries in Kenya and they should be respected,” he said.
He urged the opposition to respect Western diplomats saying that the country needs them. “We must respect the memorandum of understanding we have with other countries,” he said.
Lonyangapuo hit out at the opposition saying that the recent swearing in of NASA leader Raila Odinga was illegal and urged the opposition to respect the constitution.
Speaking in Sebit during an inspection of development projects in the area, the County boss faulted NASA leaders for being hypocrites adding that they were the ones who started collaborating with Western countries.
He said that Kenya’s economy has deteriorated following the long period of politics and asked the opposition to help the government to reinstate the nation’s economy and deliver its pledges to Kenyans.
The West Pokot Governor took a swipe at the opposition leader accusing him of practising divisive politics by preaching divisive politics, “Why are they causing political unrest and spreading negative and divisive politics to divide the country and which might plunge the country into chaos?” he posed.
He said the opposition chief was keeping the country under a constant state of anxiety and destabilizing the government’s development agenda.
