Leaders from West Pokot County have asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to wait until 2022 to vie for the presidency. They asked the opposition to acknowledge Uhuru Kenyatta as the President for the next five years.
Speaking during the Jamhuri day celebrations in Makutano Primary school, the leaders said that Kenyan economy has deteriorated following the extended politics season period and urged opposition leaders to assist the government to reinstate the economy.
West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and Kapenguria Member of Parliament Samuel Moroto said that Jubilee government has provided a lot of money to Counties and development is being realized.
“We want NASA to the give us time and they shouldn’t take this country back by placing the nation back in an election mood,” said Lonyangapuo.
Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto urged the opposition leader to retire from politics and assume the role of a consultative statesman.
“Raila has helped us as Pokots, he fought for the nation’s democracy but there can only be one President at a time,” he said.
The legislator further said the Jubilee government has done a lot of development in the country. “We have free maternity for women, free primary education, roads have been constructed, giving out youth and women funds,” he said.
West Pokot County commissioner Apollo Okello called for unity between the national and county government leaders for the sake of development. “We need to have consultation between the governments for effective delivery of services to Kenyans,”he said.
