Hundreds of youths turned up in Makutano Stadium in West Pokot County, for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise that has been going on for the last three days countrywide.
A snap survey done at the stations where recruitment was concluded showed that no lady was picked.
The exercise took place in Sigor, Central Pokot Sub County, Chepareria Kipkomo Pokot south Sub County and Kapenguria in West Pokot Sub County.
The exercise will continue in Alale in Pokot North Sub County and Kabichbich in Pokot South Sub County. According to the senior recruitment officer, Lt. Col Stephen Huria there was average turn out in most of the stations.
“We are almost done with the preliminaries. More boys turned out for the recruitment than girls. During the exercise, we have not experienced any cases of bribery. We have put in measures to curb any kind of corruption,” said Huria.
The officer also said most of the recruits had challenges of underweight, height and alteration of names in their certificates and identification documents.
“Many were short while some had documentation problems. However, some were over age, while some youths didn’t turn up because they didn’t do subjects like Physics in their KCSE exams,” he said.
Huria said that requirements for the participants are exactly those that were advertised in the daily newspapers and the exercise is free and fair.
