Medical practitioners at Lumakanda County Hospital are in frantic efforts to save the life of a 71 year old woman who had succumbed to deep injuries on her legs and hands after she was attacked by a wild beast.
Speaking to Westfm.co.ke from her hospital bed, Mrs. Emily Nafuna, a resident of Mbajo village, in Lugari Sub County, recalled how she was violently attacked by the unidentified wild beast on Tuesday at about 8 pm while she was crossing over from her kitchen to the main house.

“The animal jumped on my left leg where it scooped a huge chunk of meat before it wrestled me down and caused more injuries on my hands and neck,” said Nafuna who was alone in the compound at the time of the tragedy.
The victim’s daughter, Pamela Maindi, had rushed to the neighborhood in response to a distress call after the village had been thrown into panic mode following news of a strange beast that had already caused physical harm to a young boy.
Villagers said that an hour earlier, the beast had attacked the young boy and dog after the two scared it away when they found it attempting to attack cattle belonging to the boy’s family.
Both the elderly woman and the boy were rescued and rushed to the hospital by neighbours, where the latter had been discharged by time of going to the press.
Chekalini villagers have expressed disappointment over the damage caused and the loss of domestic animals occasioned by marauding wild beasts in the area.
“We are counting economic losses after losing several of our domestic animals, especially sheep, to these beasts,” noted one of the locals, who appealed to authorities at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to help them tame the dangerous beasts.
