A middle-aged woman from Saniak village in Chesumei constituency Nandi county was arraigned in a Kapsabet law court for being in possession of counterfeit goods.
Gladys Jepkoech appeared before Kapsabet senior resident magistrate hon. Ezekiel Obi nah and was found guilty of committing the offense.
She was charged with an offense of being in possession of counterfeit goods contrary to section 32(a) as read with section 35(1) (a) of anti-counterfeit act number 13 of 2008.
She was accused that on 28th day of December 2016 at Sironoi within Nandi county, without authority of mastermind tobacco Kenya limited, the owner of intellectual property right-she counterfeited 38 bundles and 2 packets of super match cigarettes valued at Kshs 33,440 by removing labels of packages to conceal the identity and the origin of the said products of mastermind tobacco Kenya Limited.
The suspect was proved guilty of the offense and was released on a cash fine of Kshs 20,000 or three-year jail term imprisonment.
