Parents, especially those who stay near rivers have been urged to take care of their children during this season that heavy rains are being experienced in most parts of the country.
This was stated by retired assistant chief for Sitikho sub-location Ben Murunga who said that many children in that region have lost lives in rivers during times of heavy rains.
Murunga was addressing mourners in Sipaki village, Sitikho sub location in Webuye West Constituency, during the burial of Amos Sifuma 11 year old boy a pupil at Sikubale primary school.
The boy met his tragic untimely death on Sunday 22nd May 2016 at 12.pm when he drowned in River Sivilie while he was swimming.
“We have lost many children in rivers since the rains began way back in January, therefore never leave your children go to play near unattended,” said Murunga.
Murunga went ahead telling parents to be observant of the children when they are not in school and assign them with duties to keep them busy but provide proper supervision when they will be working.
He also warned parents against making their children to be absent from school saying schools make children busy and therefore avoid many mischief.
“Young children are in the world of exploitation, they are curious of everything therefore when left alone can easily want to know how to swim and through that they lose their lives.” The chief asserted.
Murunga expressed his condolences to the family where he said that it is sad to have lost such a young boy who could have grown up and be resourceful to the society.
“It is very sad to lose this young boy who was to grow up and be helpful to his parents and the society as a whole,” he stated
This comes a few months after a form three student of Sitikho Secondary School lost his life while trying to swim in River Nzoia.

The body of the late was laid to rest on 24th May 2016 at their home in Sipaki Village Sitikho ward Bungoma County.
